Our Cats & Their Stories

Zoey Cougar

Zoey was rescued by a police officer in Ohio after she was found in a bad situation. With nowhere for the cat to go, the officer took her in. He had also rescued a black bear from similar circumstances, but after the Zanesville Ohio incident, he was no longer able to keep both animals. Although he had to give her up in 2013, Zoey’s previous owners still come to visit and support Zoey. Sadly, Zoey was declawed so she suffers from arthritis. Declawing is a terrible procedure for any animals where their paws are cut off at the first “knuckle” resulting in pain and issues walking, using the bathroom, eating, and much more. Despite her constant grumpy face, Zoey is a very “purry” girl who loves attention. Visitors get to hear her amazing purrs during our daily tours since she is the only cougar on the main tour!
