This Giving Tuesday, we want to shine a light on our beloved Archie and his upcoming surgery. Archie is our one and only Arctic fox who joined us from a private owner in Indiana. Archie came to us on June 19, 2022, and has been thriving, adapting well to his new companions. However, on October 29, 2024, our animal keepers noticed that he had developed a head tilt and was bobbing his head. Radiographs showed swelling in the ear canal, raising concerns about a possible polyp. He was started on medications, and a CT scan was scheduled. Unfortunately, the CT scan did not yield a definitive diagnosis, but it did uncover an abscess that may be related to a tumor. We are planning a procedure that will likely involve the complete removal of the ear canal. Dr. Brian Martin and Dr. Froderman will carry out the surgery at our new clinic, which opened earlier this year. We are grateful for the ability to perform the surgery in our own veterinary clinic, as it offers both convenience and cost savings. Taking Archie to Indianapolis for the CT scan added significant expenses on top of the $800 just for the scan, while the surgery is anticipated to cost around $2,500.
